The artist Daniel Pacheco is a multimedia artist who designs and builds household furniture and home goods. He utilizes ceramics, metal, woods, and plastics alike. His designs are influenced by designers like Ian Callum, artist Piet Mondrian, and architects Frank Gehry and John Lloyd Wright.

His design focus is to make furniture or goods that are both comfortable/usable and affordable while creating a comfortable and living environment as an alternative to industrial designs. He makes his design with aspects of abstraction and organic form, with an emphasis on shape.

His roots with his family coming from Puerto Rico, being born in Maastricht Netherlands, influence his designs and material choice, creating designs that emphasize a tropical sense of paradise is important to his practice. He also explores mixed media work via printmaking, sculpture, water media, and colored pencil illustration. These other media types help to inspire and direct his practice.

Artist Statement

In my studio practice there are three components to my work, those are tradition, memory, and design. These components take the form of mixed media consumer goods and furniture. These consumer goods and furniture provide opportunities to create windows or spaces for my ideas. These spaces are made for the viewer to have a space to interact with.

These spaces are made to feel like a home, a store, an office. Familiar spaces that we know and can relate with. However, by utilizing sounds, specific textures within the furniture, lighting, and smells, these spaces can transform from a simple space to an experience with a narrative created by the viewer. That experience then can provide an array of emotions, resurface memories, sensations, a closeness or sense of obstruction with the space.

In all, creating these experiences help to define my work as you the viewer are the active definer, a participant in my work. The what, when, where, and why. Questions that I ask myself but would rather have others answer for me, allowing me to grasp what is next, where is the next experience going to be?
